CDU MATCH DAY

Twenty-eight graduating Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) medical students will gather on campus with friends, family, faculty, and supporters on “Match Day.” They will simultaneously open envelopes to reveal where these soon-to-be doctors will do their residency and fellowship training positions going forward. Many of the students come from disadvantaged communities across South Los Angeles and beyond. Most have pledged to come back to serve those same communities as part of CDU’s commitment to address health disparities. The soon-to-be doctors are a part of the Charles Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program and were selected on the strength of their academic record and on the basis of their demonstrated commitment to serving disadvantaged and underserved populations with compassion. CDU is one of only four Historically Black Medical Colleges in the country and the only federally-designated Historically Black institution west of Texas. As these students embark on their next chapter, they carry forward the university’s mission to cultivate diverse health professional leaders dedicated to social justice and health equity for underserved populations, ultimately striving toward the vision of excellent health and wellness for all in a world without health disparities.
