About
Dr. Youngshin Lim is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Department of Biomedical Science Education at CDU, and Research Assistant Professor at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. She earned her PhD in Biology (Developmental Neurobiology) from the University of Pennsylvania where she also completed her postdoctoral training in neurodegenerative diseases. Before moving to California, she was trained at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where her research was focused on neurodevelopment and related disorders.
Scholarly Activities
She is currently serving as an editor for the journal, Frontiers in Neuroscience, and guest editor for the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE). In addition to her research papers, she also co-authored a book chapter in “Comprehensive Developmental Neuroscience: Neurodevelopmental Disorders”, published by Elsevier (Academic Press, 2020).
Research Interests
She has extensive trainings in two different but related fields: neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. Specifically, her research focuses on cortical development and related disorders, using both in vivo animal models and in vitro culture system. Previously she has worked on Parkinson’s disease, particularly with dementia, and her findings in published reports significantly contributed to the field. Using innovative tools her team established, she is currently working on inter-organelle contacts in the context of neurodegenerative diseases.
