Pathways to Health Careers Academy (PHCA)

The Pathways to Health Careers Academy (PHCA) is a year-long academic enrichment program designed to support high school juniors and seniors in Service Planning Area (SPA) 6 and underserved areas of SPA 8, including Inglewood, Hawthorne, Gardena, Carson, and Wilmington.

The program begins with a 4-week Summer Academy, where students take two college-level courses, and continues through the academic year with a community-based internship. Each year, 40 students participate, gaining academic support, mentorship, and exposure to healthcare careers.

Eligibility: Rising 11^th and Rising 12th graders, GPA 2.0–3.5, SPA 6 & 8

Who Can Apply

PHCA is open to rising 11th– and 12th-grade students with a GPA of 2.0-3.5. It is especially designed for:

Transitional-Aged Youth (TAY).
Students with lived experience in mental or behavioral health.
Students from underrepresented communities in higher education.
Youth who may be underperforming or at risk academically.

This program prepares students to be competitive college applicants, particularly for careers in public health, behavioral health, and mental health.
