With the implementation of the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) 2016-2020 Strategic Plan, the institution’s decades-long plan to build an independent four-year medical degree program in the College of Medicine was codified.
Strategic Objective 3: Develop and complete the establishment of CDU’s independent medical education program.
This objective, outlined under Strategic Theme 1, Strategic Goal 1 of the CDU plan, became a driving force for the University’s future. Building on this foundation, the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan further elevated this goal, leading the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) to award the College of Medicine preliminary accreditation status in 2022. This milestone enabled CDU to enroll its first class of medical students in the late summer of 2023.
To support this achievement, the College of Medicine created and approved the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan for the Program, which is aligned with the broader themes of the University’s strategic vision.
