CDU CARES researchers fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic by studying the behavioral and clinical aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. Our research strengthens the work of scientific collaborators and community partners, as well as improving the quality of services we offer and providing rich opportunities for students to become involved in all aspects of the research process.

Our leadership and commitment to research have substantially advanced the understanding of fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic in underserved communities. Research by CDU CARES is respected worldwide and has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California HIV/AIDS Research Program (CHRP), the Los Angeles Department of HIV/STD Programs (DHSP) and other national, state and local funding agencies. Our research findings have been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Lancet, Archives of General Psychiatry, the American Journal of Public Health, and AIDS other prestigious journals.

CDU CARES provides an excellent environment for researchers to work together with communities of color to make significant strides in reducing health disparities. CDU CARES researchers hold a wide range of graduate degrees spanning biological and medical sciences, behavioral and social sciences, and public health. Researchers’ skills are honed by ongoing professional development activities, including seminars, journal clubs and opportunities to share and receive expert feedback on works in progress.

CDU CARES has fostered groundbreaking collaborations with both community, governmental, and academic partners in the U.S., including the University of California Los Angeles, the University of California San Francisco, the University of Southern California, Bienestar Human Services, the Center for Health Justice, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, and JWCH Institute, Inc.
