Beloved CDU Employee Retires After Nearly 19 Years of Service to CDU

After nearly 19 years of dedicated service, Walter Pitts has retired from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.
Over his 18 years and 11 months at CDU, Pitts made a lasting impact across campus through his work on the Facilities team where he supported the daily operations that keep the University running.
“Walter, all that you’ve done while you were here, 18 years and 11 months serving on our facilities team, sharing wisdom with everyone you encountered across this campus whether students, faculty, staff, or staff is something we should all commemorate and be proud of,” said Angela Minniefield, Senior VP, Advancement and Operations and COO. “The folks working in the trenches are really the ones who keep us going. For Walter to have developed relationships with so many over these last 18 years, is a true testament to what we do at CDU.”
Since joining CDU in 2007, Pitts’ pride in both the University and the community was evident in the warmth he extended to everyone he encountered. A resident of South Los Angeles himself, Pitts embodied the mission of CDU through his belief that the community deserves access to education, higher education, and healthcare.
