Classroom Named After Dr. Arthur Fleming
University leaders, faculty, and staff gathered in the Cobb building for a special unveiling ceremony of the newly named Arthur W. Fleming, MD classroom.
Located in the recently renovated section of the Cobb Building, the classroom is used for lectures for students in CDU’s historic 4-Year MD program.
Dr. Fleming has made an indelible impact on the University throughout his decades of service. He’s committed to helping others achieve their goals and lives by the motto, “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
Dr. Fleming served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at CDU and Program Director of the Surgery Residency Program.
Additionally, Dr. Fleming served as the first Trauma Director, a Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, and as Chief of the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
He’s an Emeritus Professor of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at CDU and sits on the Charles R. Drew Medical Society Board of Directors.
The naming of the Arthur W. Fleming, MD classroom marks an exciting moment for COM as it continues to blaze trails as the 157th medical degree program in the U.S. and stands as one of only four MD programs offered at a historically black medical school.
