4th Annual Drug Abuse Research Symposium
The Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) 4th Annual Drug Abuse Research Symposium, “Drug Addiction is a Brain Disease,” occurred on September 26, 2008. The event featured keynote speaker was George F. Koob, PhD, Research Professor, at the Scripps Research Institute. His address, “The Neurobiology of Drug Addiction: Shedding Light on the Dark Side” was delivered to a full capacity audience of 146 participants and 19 presenters.
The goals of the Drug Abuse Research Symposium are to:
1) highlight substance abuse research at CDU and its affiliates;
2) expose student sand trainees to research on substance abuse;
3) expose potential trainees to potential substance abuse mentors; and
4) bring together substance abuse researchers for future seminars and funding opportunities
The symposium is funded by the Minority Institution Drug Abuse Research Program at CDU (MIDARP; NIH R24DA017298). This grant, originally funded in September 2004, received competitive renewal funding in September 2008.
The symposium presentations will be available soon for web-streaming and pod-casting.
