Overview

College of Medicine

The Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program fosters the development of leaders who will advance medical practice and knowledge in underserved areas in the United States and abroad. Students are selected on the strength of their academic record and on the basis of their demonstrated commitment to serving disadvantaged and underserved populations with compassion. Each year, twenty-eight students enroll in the four-year community-based medical education programs. Our students represent the full range of gender, ethnic, and educational diversity of our society which contributes to the strength of our institution.

The Admissions Committee seeks intelligent, mature and highly motivated candidates who show promise of becoming leaders and innovators in the medical field. The Admissions Committee considers the strength of the applicant’s academic record, MCAT score(s), record of activities and accomplishments, community service and letters of recommendation.  The personal interview is an integral part of the process.

In keeping with CDU’s commitment to clinical and translational research development, the Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR) degree prepares participants with doctoral degrees for careers in clinical and translational research, academic health care, public health and for government or private industry as it relates to health care.  The degree also provides the health professional with an educational foundation necessary fro more rapid advancement and expansion of their scholarly activities.

College of Science and Health

The College of Science and Health at Charles Drew University offers undergraduate degree programs leading to the associate, baccalaureate degrees or professional certificates.  It also offers a master’s degree program in Urban Public Health.  It provides students a solid science and liberal arts background, which enables graduates to bring a rich and informed sense of public responsibility to their careers as health care professional or biomedical scientist.

In keeping with Charles Drew University’s mission, the goal of the College of Science and Health is to foster a dynamic educational climate that provides students with relevant educational experiences leading to both personal and social growth.  This environment is d to enable students to attain their personal goals, become competitive in the job market, and to be involved in their communities.

Admissions is a competitive process in which each student’s entire application packet is individually reviewed.  In selecting students, each program considers evidence of the applicant’s integrity, discipline, compassion, and intellectual vigor.  Documentation of academic preparation, personal achievement, and letters of recommendation are given careful consideration in the determination of an applicant’s eligibility.  Additionally, each program’s admissions committee takes into consideration all evidence to suggest that applicants are capable of completing the curriculum in the specified time and will be able to achieve the levels of competence that the program requires.
