Legal Assistance for CDU Students
Upon request, CDU provides immigration law specialist referrals to enrolled students who hold DACA status. Students seeking a referral may contact CDU’s General Counsel, John Patton, Esq. via phone at (323) 563-5925 or email.
CDU will preserve the right to privacy of all students and will not voluntarily share student records with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or other government agencies seeking to ascertain the immigration status of a CDU student.
Applying for DACA
Individuals may request DACA if they:
- Were under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012
- Came to the United States before reaching their 16th birthday.
- Have continuously resided in the United States since June 15, 2007, up to the present time.
- Were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making their request for consideration of deferred action with USCIS.
- Had no lawful status on June 15, 2012.
- Are currently in school, have graduated or obtained a certificate of completion from high school, have obtained a general education development (GED) certificate, or are an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States.
- Have not been convicted of a felony, significant misdemeanor, or three or more other misdemeanors, and do not otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.
Age Guidelines
Anyone requesting DACA must have been under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012. Individuals must also be at least 15 years or older to request DACA, unless they are currently in removal proceedings or have a final removal or voluntary departure order.

DACA Renewal
If an individual’s DACA status expired after September 5, 2017, they are urged to complete and submit a DACA renewal application as soon as possible.
If an individual’s DACA status expired before September 5, 2017, or if their DACA was previously terminated, they may file a new initial DACA request in accordance with the Form I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization instructions. Individuals must list the date their prior DACA expired or was terminated, if available, on Part 1 of the Form I-821D.
