Maintaining comprehensive health insurance coverage is mandatory for all full-time CDU students.
All students MUST be covered by an Affordable Care Act (ACA)-compliant domestic health insurance plan for the entire academic year, including summer and holidays. CDU students may choose to enroll in the Charles R. Drew University Student Health Insurance Plan (also known as “Gallagher Health Insurance”) or provide their own coverage, if comparable.
CDU Student Health Insurance Plan
The University’s Health Insurance Plan provides coverage from August of one year to August of the following year. The annual fee is charged in two installments (fall and spring).

*Full-time for undergraduate students qualifies at 12 credits. Full-time for graduate/professional studies qualifies at 9 credits.
- All students are required to waive ONCE per academic year, by the fall semester add/drop deadline. Students who enroll at CDU in the spring or summer must waive by May 30.
- The deadline to submit proof of insurance and request a waiver is strict and non-negotiable. Students who are unable to file proof of insurance via the Gallagher website by the posted deadline are automatically enrolled in and billed for the CDU Student Health Insurance Plan.
- CDU is not responsible for any fees a student may incur as a result of failing to waive coverage
- All waivers must be completed through the Gallagher Insurance website
- International students may not waive enrollment in the CDU Student Health Insurance Plan unless they are currently enrolled in a fully-compliant Affordable Care Act plan through a U.S.-based insurance company
- Enrollment in the CDU Student Health Insurance Plan ceases at the conclusion of the student’s final semester at CDU.
How to Waive/Enroll
Log in
- Log on to Gallagher Insurance
- Click “Log In” on the Profile tile
- First-time users: An email from Gallagher Student Health has been sent to your CDU email with a temporary password. Click on the link provided in the email and enter the temporary password. (If you did not receive a temporary password, you can choose the ‘Forgot your password?’ option on the login page).
- Click “Waive” or “Enroll” on the Plan Summary tile
- Follow the instructions to complete the form
- A reference number will be emailed upon submission, however final determination may take 24-48 hours
Enroll
- Visit the Gallagher Insurance website
- On the left toolbar, click ‘Student Waive/Enroll’
- Log in by following the instructions on the website (if you haven’t already)
- Click ‘I want to Enroll/Waive’
- Follow the instructions to complete the form
- Print or write down your reference number
Waive
You may waive enrollment in CDU’s Student Health Insurance Plan if your current insurance plan provides comparable coverage.
- Visit the Gallagher Insurance website
- On the left toolbar, click ‘Student Waive/Enroll’
- Log in by following the instructions on the website (if you haven’t already)
- Click ‘I want to Enroll/Waive’
- Follow the instructions to complete the form
- Print or write down your reference number. Receipt of this number only confirms the submission, not acceptance, of your form.
