Student Profile: Arianna Aceves, BMS ’26
Whether arriving from community colleges or four-year universities, transfer students at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) have unlocked their academic potential by seamlessly transferring college credits.
For students like Arianna Aceves, that transfer pathway opened the door to new opportunities, community, and purpose. A first-generation college student and aspiring dentist, Aceves transferred to CDU in 2023 to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences.
Born in Nevada and raised in California, Aceves has called Los Angeles home for most of her life. Her family and personal experiences inspired her to pursue a career in dentistry.
Before transferring to CDU, Aceves earned an associate degree in mathematics and natural sciences from Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (LATTC) and later enrolled at Los Angeles City College, where she joined the dental technician program.
Her journey to CDU began when she met University representatives at a TransferFest event. “They told me about the Biomedical Sciences program and how it could be a pathway to dental school,” Aceves recalled.
Now well into her studies, Aceves says the University’s smaller class sizes and supportive community have made all the difference. She is also gaining hands-on research experience through the array of high impact research opportunities CDU offers.
“There’s so much research happening here from cancer studies to public health,” Aceves said. “You can choose a project that aligns with what you’re passionate about.”
Outside of her coursework, Aceves serves as Vice President of Partnerships in the CDU Student Government, where she works to bring external vendors to campus and build relationships with other schools.
Looking ahead, Aceves plans to apply to dental school and to CDU’s Master of Biomedical Sciences program. Whichever path she takes next, she’s confident that CDU has helped her build a strong foundation.
