President Carlisle Delivers Inspiring Keynote at Compton College Commencement

Dr. David M. Carlisle, CDU President and CEO, delivered a powerful keynote address at the 2024 Compton College Commencement Ceremony, held at Dignity Health Sports Park Tennis Stadium. His speech, filled with motivational insights and encouragement, highlighted the importance of education, resilience, and community service.

“The transformative power of education cannot be overstated,” Dr. Carlisle shared in his speech. “Education is not just a pathway to personal and professional success; it is a powerful tool for uplifting entire communities.”

Dr. Carlisle acknowledged the collaboration between CDU and Compton College through the Compton Community Health Professions Partnership to address healthcare disparities and provide resources for students pursuing health professions.

“This partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration in creating positive change,” said Dr. Carlisle.

Dr. Carlisle commended the graduates for their perseverance particularly in the face of global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and various conflicts worldwide. “Your resilience in overcoming these obstacles and more to be here today on the cusp of graduating are commendable and inspiring,” he said, urging the graduates to use their education to create positive change.

Reflecting on the rich cultural heritage of Compton, Dr. Carlisle reminded the graduates of the city’s significant impact on arts, sports, and entertainment. He emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, drawing inspiration from local landmarks.

“Now, each and every one of you are a manifestation of Compton’s legacy and its potential to inspire greatness,” he stated.

The ceremony included a surprise cameo speech by rapper Kendrick Lamar, who added an extra layer of excitement and inspiration for the graduates. “It’s not often that one can say they opened for Kendrick Lamar,” noted Dr. Carlisle after the event.
