Medical Student Published in Prestigious Journal
Clarence Sams, a 2nd year medical student in the College of Medicine (COM), has been published as first author in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology for the paper, “Human – Artificial Intelligence Interaction Research is Crucial for Medical Artificial Intelligence Implementation.”
“This paper highlights the crucial role dermatologists should play in shaping artificial intelligence tools for clinical use,” explained Sams. “These tools need to be highly usable and trustworthy, and dermatologists are uniquely positioned to ensure that happens.”
Sams contributed to this project over the course of his summer at Stanford Dermatology where he participated in the Stanford HBMC-REACH program.
“There, I dove into coding, started developing my own machine learning software for keloids, and contributed to several other projects,” said Sams. “It was an incredible learning experience!”
The Journal of Investigative Dermatology publishes high impact reports describing original research related to all aspects of cutaneous biology and skin disease.
