Charles R. Drew University and American University of Antigua College of Medicine Establish New Pathway to Medical Degree

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) to establish a new pathway for CDU graduates interested in pursuing a medical degree (MD).
The agreement guarantees admission for eligible CDU graduates into AUA’s MD educational program while also providing benefits such as an expedited admission timeline, waived application fees, and eligibility for the $10,000 Preferred Program Grant along with other scholarships and awards.
“This agreement creates new opportunities for our students by expanding the options available to them once they complete their studies at CDU,” said Dr. José Torres-Ruiz, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at CDU. “It also strengthens our global perspective, giving students the chance to connect their training to health disparities and social determinants of health not only locally and nationally, but across the world.
Founded on the belief that becoming a doctor should be a dream within reach, AUA shares common values with CDU in its focus on academic excellence and health equity. Part of the Manipal Education and Medical Group, AUA is a U.S.-modeled institution that offers students strong clinical training, access to federal loans, a welcoming campus in Antigua, and a proven track record of U.S. residency placements.
“We are honored to partner with Charles R. Drew University, an institution that shares our commitment to equity, opportunity, and student success,” said Joshua Stagner, Vice President of Admissions, Marketing & Alumni. “Together, we will provide students with the support and resources to become compassionate physicians who reflect the communities they serve.”
This Memorandum of Understanding builds on CDU’s growing portfolio of partnerships designed to expand opportunities for its students, strengthen the healthcare workforce pipeline, and reduce barriers to careers in medicine. Together, CDU and AUA are expanding access to medical careers while strengthening the pipeline of intentional healthcare professionals who are equipped to meet needs worldwide.
