CDU Announces Inaugural Women of Distinction Recipients

The CDU Staff Council has announced the recipients of the Inaugural CDU Women of Distinction 2022 Recipients. The CDU Women of Distinction are selected for a range of criteria including volunteerism towards improving the quality of life for others, establishing standards that inspire and encourage other women to achieve their full potential, providing leadership, and influencing decisions that positively shape and define our city and community. 

This year’s selected winners are Angela Minniefield, Monica Ferrini, Brittney Miller, Sharon Cobb, Monika Scherer and Adrienne Milbourne-Thompson. 

“In celebration of Women’s History Month, the CDU Staff Council sought nominations for the Inaugural CDU Woman of Distinction Award,” said April Walter-Brown, CDU Staff Management Council Co-Chair. “They received this special honor for outstanding leadership and poised conduct in their professional field.”

Angela Minniefield, Senior Vice President of Strategic Advancement and Operations, has been dedicated to public service for more than two decades.

“CDU is already an amazing institution with wonderfully dedicated and talented people in pursuit of a noble mission,” said Minniefield. “This makes being identified for this honor an even more humbling experience.”
Dr. Monica Ferrini, Interim Dean of the College of Science and Health, is  a well-known researcher in the field of Neuroendocrinology and Urology.

Brittney Miller, former Director of Alumni and Corporate Relations, worked to develop several programming and community outreach initiatives for the University. 

Dr. Sharon Cobb is the Director of the Prelicensure Nursing Programs and an Assistant Professor in the Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing. 

Monika Scherer is the Program Manager for Health Policy and Health Services Research in the College of Medicine and Health Policy Pillar of the Urban Health Institute at CDU.

Adrienne Thompson has held positions in Student Affairs for more than 20 years – 12 years at the University of Southern California and 10 years at the University of California Los Angeles.
