MSN Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner: Training Advanced Practice Nurses in Mental Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, and Clinical Management
This full-time PMHNP program combines intensive monthly on-campus sessions with flexible online learning. Theoretical coursework is delivered during four consecutive days each month (Saturday through Tuesday), while web-enhanced instruction supports ongoing faculty collaboration and content review. All clinical hours are completed as immersion practicum experiences under the supervision of approved preceptors in real-world mental health settings. Rolling admissions available for Fall, Spring, and Summer cohorts.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a regionally accredited college/university or the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a regionally accredited college/university based on a university approved foreign credential evaluation for the MSN PMHNP applicants.
An absolute cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required.
Official transcripts from all regionally accredited post-secondary schools attended.
A current and unrestricted registered nurse license in the state of California.
Statistics course (3 units) completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to matriculation.
Resume or curriculum vitae.
Three letters of recommendation (academic/professional)
Two letters of recommendation must be from a current or past nursing supervisor/ manager.
Recommendations should address the following areas:
Relationships with work (paid or voluntary) associates.
Work competence.
Communication and interpersonal skills with persons of diverse backgrounds.
Leadership skills or potential.
Values, ethical standards, responsibility, and initiative.
Personal Goal Statement (2-3 pages)
The applicant’s goals must be congruent with those of the MMDCON, the University, and the applicant’s chosen specialty. May be submitted online via NursingCAS, in a PDF or Word format. The goal statement is an opportunity for students to tell the admissions committee about their career plans upon completion of their graduate degree.
Applicants who fall below the eligibility requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. In each case, additional supplemental items may be required.
For International Students
We do not require a separate application or additional fee; however, you should be prepared to meet all the admissions requirements outlined above. However, any coursework completed outside of the U.S. must be evaluated for U.S. course equivalency from one of the following (a course-by-course evaluation, including equivalent degree with GPA, is required):
English Language Proficiency and International Student Support
Proficiency in English is required for all applicants whose first language is not English. International students must submit official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) scores. The minimum total score required is 84, with at least 24 in both the speaking and writing sections.
