Dr. William L. Shay serves as Interim Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
Dr. Shay joined CDU in 2009 as the director of the office of academic personnel for the College of Medicine.
In addition to faculty affairs and academic program administration, he specializes in institutional and clinical program accreditation, including serving since 2012 as Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) to the WASC Senior College and University Commission. He completed the regional accreditation agency’s Assessment Leadership Academy (2015-16) and is the current campus lead for ACE-ACUE faculty development on effective practice frameworks, in partnership and with funding from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Chief among his favorite community service activities, Dr. Shay is campus host and a mentor to eight students from Verbum Dei Jesuit High School as part of their corporate work study program.
Dr. Shay holds a PhD in sociology with 34 years of academic affairs experience across multiple public and private higher education institutions. From 1992-99 he served The University of Michigan as the inaugural manager of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics. At Harvard University from 1999-2005 he was the founding executive director of a basic social science and then life science research center. As a graduate of the Harvard Leadership Academy, he also served as a management delegate to the Regional Problem-Solving Team of the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers. From 2005 to 2009, Dr. Shay also led the academic personnel office of the College of Letters & Science at the University of California, Los Angeles.
