About

Dr. Artaza is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Health and Life Sciences at COSH, CDU, where he teaches General Microbiology and Immunology for undergraduates and Advances in Hematology & Immunology, Infectious Diseases, and Translational Research Methods for graduate students. He was recently appointed Director of the MED716 Immunology Module at the CDU College of Medicine. Dr. Artaza is trained as a clinical hematologist and immunologist specializing in diagnosing anemias, leukemias, and histocompatibility for solid organ transplantation.

Research Interests

With more than forty publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and book chapters, Dr. Artaza’s research focused on the mechanism of fibrosis mediated by myostatin and Vitamin D. Also on the role of Vitamin D on skeletal muscle and cardiac differentiation. Dr. Artaza was awarded the “U.K. Society for Endocrinology’s Journal Award.” for the best paper published in the Journal of Molecular Endocrinology. He was also awarded the “CDU Academic Senate Outstanding Teaching Award” for his outstanding contributions to advancing the mission of CDU through his service to Students and Faculty. Dr. Artaza also holds professional memberships at the American Federation for Medical Research (AFMR) and The Royal Society of Medicine in the U.K.
