BS in Psychology with an Emphasis in Community Counseling

Why the BS in Psychology, Community Counseling program? 

The program provides a curriculum to prepare undergraduate students for a workforce role as a mental health counselor as well as graduate education in psychology, public health, social work, medicine, psychiatric nursing etc. 

The student to faculty ratio provides opportunities for students to align with faculty mentors for clinical and research opportunities. The program has a unique CDU Advantage focusing on health disparities, equity and social justice. The program also offers coursework that prepares students to obtain jobs in the healthcare field with an earned B.S. degree. 

Additional Experiences 

Students can engage with community agencies and/or academic research outside of the classroom. Examples of opportunities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Research opportunities with CDU

  • Volunteering with community based
    organizations
  • Participate in webinars hosted by
    leaders in Community Psychology

Career Options

Students who complete the BS in Psychology, Community Counseling program pursue careers such as: 

  • Mental Health Counselor 
  • Substance Abuse Counselor   
  • Applied Behavioral Analysis Technician   
  • Case Manager

Students can also pursue advanced degrees in Psychology (Clinical, Counseling, School, Forensic, Industrial/Organizational), Social Work, Marriage and Family, Education, Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, and more.
