Compton Goes to College – HBCU Edition

The campus of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) welcomed nearly 300 high school students from Compton Unified School District for the Compton Goes to College – HBCU Edition conference, a dynamic event designed to cultivate a strong college-going culture across the district.
In addition to connecting with representatives from more than 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), students participated in interactive College & Career workshops featuring over 30 professionals from a wide range of industries, including health sciences, business, education, sports, technology and more.
“We are committed to creating pathways that transform communities,” said Dr. Dulcie Kermah, Director, CDU Pathways Programs. “Today was proof that when we open doors and provide meaningful access to higher education, our students rise to the occasion. Our scholars are motivated, capable, and fully prepared to excel.”
Through programs, campus-hosted conferences, and year-round engagement efforts, CDU continues to guide and support the next generation of leaders reinforcing its longstanding role as a steward of educational opportunity and community advancement in South Los Angeles.
