Applicants to the Pre-Nursing to BSN Track must meet the admission requirements outlined below.
The Pre-Nursing program is designed for first-time college students and transfer students who are interested in applying to the Pre-Licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing, BSN, program.
The curriculum includes lower-division general education courses and in-residency nursing courses required for the Pre-Licensure BSN program.
Admission to the Pre-Nursing program does not guarantee admission into the BSN program. Students must meet all transition requirements before being considered for admission into the BSN program.
Students who already hold a bachelor’s degree are not eligible for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and should apply to the Master of Science in Nursing, Entry Level Master’s Program.
Pre-Nursing Admission and Application Requirements
Applicants to the Pre-Nursing program must submit the following:
- Completed application through NursingCAS.org
- Official transcripts
- High school transcripts for first-time college students
- College transcripts for transfer students
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- GPAs below 3.0 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Additional documentation may be required.
- One letter of recommendation, academic or professional
- Recommendations should address:
- Relationships with work associates, paid or voluntary
- Work competence
- Communication and interpersonal skills with people of diverse backgrounds
- Leadership skills or potential
- Values, ethical standards, responsibility, and initiative
- Recommendations should address:
- Resume or curriculum vitae
- Include professional experience and extracurricular activities such as volunteer service, community service, COVID-19 relief, homeless shelter service, sports, religious group volunteer work, or related activities.
- Personal statement
- Applicants should explain their interest in obtaining a BSN degree and attending CDU.
- Statements must be typed and a minimum of one page.
International Student Requirements
The University welcomes applications from international students. CDU is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students with an F-1 Student Visa.
The term international student refers to any student who is not a permanent resident or naturalized citizen of the United States.
CDU requires a course-by-course evaluation that includes:
- All subjects or courses completed at the post-secondary level
- U.S. semester credit and grade equivalent for each course
- U.S. grade point average, GPA
- Undergraduate course level designation, lower or upper division
- Degree awarded, including title and date conferred

Requirements to Transition from Pre-Nursing into the BSN Program
The Pre-Licensure BSN program is designed for CDU Pre-Nursing students seeking to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Graduates of the program are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination. Graduates may also apply for Public Health Nurse, PHN, certification after becoming licensed as a Registered Nurse, RN.
To transition from Pre-Nursing into the BSN program, students must meet the following requirements:
Prerequisite Coursework
Students must complete all 16 prerequisite courses by the start of the Pre-Nursing program.
Math and science prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of B or better before matriculation to be transferable. Math and science prerequisites must be completed within seven years of starting the Pre-Nursing program.
Math and science prerequisites include:
- College Algebra, 3 units
- Intro/General Biology, no lab required, 3 units
- Intro/General Chemistry with lab, 4 units
- Intro/General Microbiology with lab, 4 units
- Human Anatomy with lab, 4 units
- Human Physiology with lab, 4 units
The remaining prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better:
- English Composition, 3 units
- English Critical Thinking, 3 units
- Public Speaking, 3 units
- Intro/General Sociology, 3 units
- Intro/General Psychology, 3 units
- Creative Arts, 3 units
- Humanities I and II, 2 courses, 3 units each, 6 units total
Mandatory prerequisite nursing courses must be taken at CDU and passed with a grade of B or better:
- Nursing 418
- Nursing 419
Please note: CDU accepts semester units. Quarter units must be converted to semester units to ensure applicants meet unit requirements.
GPA Requirement
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
GPAs below 3.0 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Additional documentation may be required.
ATI TEAS Exam Requirement
Students must complete the ATI TEAS exam with:
- A minimum overall score of 75%
- A minimum score of 75% in each submodular area:
- English
- Reading
- Math
- Science
The ATI TEAS exam must be taken and passed within one year of requesting transition into the BSN program.
