Prospective students applying to the Lactation Education Pathway 2 (LEP2) Certificate Program must complete the online application and submit all required documentation for review. Applications are evaluated based on academic preparation, relevant experience, and readiness for clinical training.

Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
Personal statement describing interest in lactation education and maternal–infant health
Interview with program faculty (if selected)

Prerequisite Coursework
Applicants must complete college-level coursework in the following areas before admission:
Biology
Human Anatomy
Human Physiology
Infant and Child Development
Nutrition
Psychology, Counseling, or Communication
Sociology or Cultural Studies
Research or Evidence-Based Practice
These courses provide the scientific and clinical foundation required for lactation education and training.
Health and Safety Requirements
Students admitted to the program must provide the following before beginning clinical training:
Immunization documentation
TB screening
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
Criminal background check
Drug screening
These requirements ensure safe clinical learning environments.
Additional Program Requirements
Students enrolled in the program must also have:
Computer Access A personal computer with reliable internet for coursework and communication.
Transportation Access to transportation for clinical placements throughout Los Angeles County.
Health Insurance Active personal health insurance during enrollment.
