From Virtual Reunions to Digital Platforms, CDU Strengthens Alumni Ties

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is renewing its focus on alumni engagement, building stronger and more inclusive ways for graduates to stay connected and give back.
The renewed energy was exemplified when members of the Drew/UCLA Medical Education Class of 1990 reunited virtually to commemorate more than 30 years since graduation. “Events like this remind our alumni why they chose CDU,” said Alumni Relations Manager Maruska Moore. “It reconnects them to our mission and turns nostalgia into action.”
Plans are underway to replicate the virtual reunion with other milestone classes and affinity groups, extending CDU’s sense of family across time zones and generations.
Additionally, Moore is developing a range of engagement opportunities including Alumni Connect, interviews featuring alumni as guest speakers, and the Alumni Council, which supports current students and alumni through networking and continuous learning.
“The alumni experience doesn’t just start when our students graduate; it begins at enrollment,” said Moore. “That’s why we’re working closely with the offices of Student Affairs and Enrollment to ensure that every student feels part of this lifelong community from the very beginning.”

To that end, the University will launch CDU Connect in Spring 2026. Designed to foster mentorship and professional networking, the private digital platform will provide students, alumni, and CDU staff with a shared space to engage and build community.
“CDU Connect will ensure that every graduate feels supported at every stage of their academic journey and throughout their career,” Moore explained. “From career panels to volunteer opportunities and donor-funded scholarships, our goal is to make connection a habit, not just a one-time event.”
CDU alumni are invited to pre-register for CDU Connect before its official launch.
