Compton Fest Brings ‘Compton to the World’ at CDU

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) was proud to host Compton Fest 2025, welcoming community members, elected officials, artists, and more to celebrate community, culture, and connection.
“The purpose of Compton Fest is to bring Compton to the world and the world to Compton,” said DeMira Pierre, Compton Fest Founder and Executive Producer. “We want to connect people with premium resources, encourage community engagement, and make sure our city is taken care of. That’s what Compton Fest is all about, and we cannot do it without the support of the city.”
Congresswoman Maxine Waters joined in celebrating the event, emphasizing CDU’s role in the community. “We are so pleased about the leadership that Dr. Carlisle is providing at this University,” she said. “They are moving, they continue to grow, they are expanding all of the services, and this is good for all of our communities.”
For nearly 60 years, CDU has been a trusted presence in South Los Angeles, and continues to strengthen its role as a hub for community engagement.
“We are proud to be a gathering place for our community. Events like Compton Fest reflect CDU’s influence and reach beyond academics to create shared spaces that uplift, connect, and celebrate the neighborhoods it serves,” said Angela Minniefield, Senior Vice President of Advancement and Operations and Chief Operations Officer, CDU. “We look forward to hosting more events that bring people together and invite community partners to consider CDU as the home for their next gathering.”
