GivingTuesday at CDU: A Celebration of Generosity and Impact
Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science celebrated GivingTuesday, a global event dedicated to practicing radical generosity.
Held annually on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, GivingTuesday serves to inspire communities worldwide to give back in meaningful ways.
“GivingTuesday does not have to be about giving money only,” said Andreh Khatchaturains, CDU Executive Director for Development and Alumni Relations. “It’s a day where people can give back in many different ways, like making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, giving some of what we have to those who need our help, and volunteering their time, amongst other things.”
For CDU, the fundraising event in the Cobb Lobby brought together staff, students, and faculty to enjoy delicious pastries, donuts, muffins, hot chocolate, and coffee.
Attendees also had the chance to take home exclusive CDU-branded items, including socks, t-shirts, and polo shirts.
The event far exceeded its $10,000 fundraising goal, with the CDU community rallying to raise over $14,000 in gifts.
“GivingTuesday is a day to encourage people to give back to their communities in whatever way they can and to promote altruism and generosity, and to reimagine a world where generosity is part of everyday life,” added Khatchaturains.
Proceeds from GivingTuesday will support CDU’s Mission Maker Fund, an unrestricted fund designed to address campus priorities and initiatives that are not covered by tuition or operational budgets.
