About the Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Prelicensure Track

 The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program — Prelicensure Track at CDU is designed for students on the path to becoming registered nurses. This program offers a comprehensive foundation through a sequence of lower-and upper division courses, setting the stage for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and sit for the NCLEX-RN exam.

Throughout the program, students engage in a variety of learning activities that help develop essential skills for patient and family care within a supportive environment. This environment encourages the application of research and promotes critical thinking and inquiry in nursing practice.

Role and Qualifications

Graduates of this program are prepared at the generalist level to assume the entry-level registered nurse role. As registered nurses, they are responsible for the comprehensive clinical management of individuals, families, and communities across the continuum of care, in various clinical settings, including virtual environments.

Curriculum

The BSN – Prelicensure Track is designed to provide students with the foundational education and prerequisites necessary for entry into the upper-division nursing curriculum. This program begins with full-time study in preceptored clinical settings, where students complete general education courses that offer introductory knowledge on the physiological, psychosocial, environmental, and political factors affecting individual and community health.

Pathway to Upper Division Nursing Courses

In addition to successful completion of the general education and prerequisite courses, students will also be required to complete the TEAS exam, with a required score of 75% in all four submodular areas (Reading, English, Math, and Sciences).

Students will complete a supplemental application, after completing the Pre-Nursing phase of the BSN at CDU.

Once transitioned into the BSN Upper Division Nursing Coursework phase, students will complete the remaining nursing degree requirements at CDU.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing –Admission Requirements

If you already have a Bachelor’s degree, you are not eligible for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and will need to apply for the Master of Science in Nursing-Entry Level Master’s program.

Application requirements include

• Completed application submitted through Nursing CAS (Link: https://nursingcas.org/)
• Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
• High school transcripts for first time in college students
• College transcripts for college transfer students  
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 for high school courses preferred
• Minimum GPA of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for college courses (if taken)
  • (May be granted conditional admission for GPAs 2.00-2.99 that exclude all pre-requisite nursing courses. GPAs under the 3.0 requirement will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Additional documentation may be required.)
• One letter of recommendation (academic/professional)
• Resume or curriculum vitae including professional experience as well as extracurricular activities (volunteer services, covid-19 relief, homeless shelter services, sports, religious group volunteer, etc) 
• Personal Statement

*****Applicants may transfer up to 46 units toward meeting the 16 prerequisites course requirements for the BSN Nursing Direct phase/upper division courses. Most pre-requisites require a minimum grade of C or higher, except for math and science prerequisite courses, which require a grade of a B or higher. All science and math pre-requisites must have been completed within seven (7) years of the submission of the program of change form for the BSN Nursing Direct Form.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Pre-Nursing Track Admission Requirements 

The Pre-Nursing Program at CDU is designed for first-time college students and for transfer students with outstanding prerequisites who wish to prepare for a BSN program. The program curriculum includes lower-division general education courses and science prerequisites for the BSN degree program at CDU.  Admission to the Pre-Nursing Program does not guarantee admission into the BSN program. 

If you already have a Bachelor’s degree, you are not eligible for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and will need to apply for the Master of Science in Nursing-Entry Level Master’s program. 

International Student Requirements

CDU requires a course-to-course evaluation that lists all subjects/courses completed at the post-secondary level, a U.S. semester credit and grade equivalent for each course, a U.S. grade point average (GPA), the level of undergraduate courses designated as lower or upper division, and the degree awarded with the title and date conferred.
