Author’s Tea Promotes Quality Research Discussions
The CDU Health Sciences Library and the Office of Research Operations hosted the CDU Library Author’s Tea to showcase the research faculty’s books, works, and publications.
The event, held in the Cobb Lobby, featured remarks from CDU administration, poem recitations, and insights into how the CDU Health Sciences Library and the Office of Sponsored Programs can support the campus research community.
A highlight of the event was the panel discussions, where panelists presented succinct overviews of their current research projects and offered advice to those interested in pursuing research careers.
The first panel discussion, focused on manuscript writing, was facilitated by Mr. Augustine Odume, Director of Finance/Internal Medicine. Panelists included Dr. Theodore Friedman, Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine and a Professor in the College of Medicine (COM); Dr. Sharon Cobb, Director of the Pre-licensure Nursing Programs and an Assistant Professor in the Mervyn M. Dymally College of Nursing (MMDCON); and Professor Aziza Lucas-Varnado.
The second panel provided an overview of the roles and necessary steps to become a Principal Investigator. This discussion was facilitated by Dr. Lola Ogunyemi, Interim Vice President for Research, with panelists Dr. Mohsen Bazargan, Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Medicine, and Dr. Homero del Pino, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior.
This third “CDU Library Author’s Tea” was an informative event that provided the larger CDU community with practical tools and tips as they work to develop and publish their own research. With growing support for the gathering, CDU Library Director Dr. Darlene Parker Kelly hopes it can evolve into a mini-symposium.
