CDU’s newly proposed Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency Program has successfully achieved accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). This milestone marks a significant achievement in CDU’s commitment to advancing medical education and patient care.

The program, set to commence on July 1, 2024, is designed to develop highly knowledgeable, clinically competent, and culturally sensitive physiatrists. It aims to train diverse health professional leaders dedicated to social justice and health equity, particularly for underserved populations.

The PM&R residency program at CDU is structured around five key pillars known at the CDU Advantage: research, social justice, international exposure, community-based experiences, and health policy.

Residents in the program will benefit from a comprehensive training experience at primary clinical sites such as the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center in Long Beach and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. These sites provide a robust environment for learning, offering diverse clinical experiences in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

This accreditation by ACGME is a testament to CDU’s unwavering dedication to excellence in medical training and its strategic approach to addressing healthcare disparities through education and community engagement. With the accreditation now official, CDU will soon begin accepting applications for its inaugural cohort of PM&R residents through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) in Fall 2024.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to prepare, noting that all applicants must be legally able to work or study in the United States prior to applying. Students can learn more about the program and application process from the PM&R program page on the CDU website.
