Dr.
Shaheen received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Cairo
University School of Science. She was awarded her M.D. degree and her
Master Degree in Internal Medicine from Cairo University School of
Medicine and practiced medicine for ten years. She received an
Outstanding Award from the Ministry of Health in Cairo for her services
and accomplishment in the field of internal medicine. She worked in
several collaborative research projects between Universities in United
States and institutions in Cairo. After completion of a multi-central
collaborative project, Dr. Shaheen offered a fellowship to study toward
master and doctorate degree at the School of Public Health University
of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Shaheen received her Master in
Public Health (M.P.H) and her doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Epidemiology
from the UCLA School of Public Health (UCLA). Dr. Shaheen worked as an
internal medicine physician and as a researcher in Cairo. In the
research field, she was appointed as a Chair of the Epidemiology,
Biostatistics, and Computer Unit in the Nutrition Institute in Cairo.
During her study period at UCLA, she worked at several research
projects as a researcher and as a consultant. She also worked as a
teaching assistant for several classes in the Department of
Epidemiology at UCLA School of Public Health. She received two honor
awards from UCLA School of Public Health; an Outstanding Service Award
and Teaching Assistant of the Year for the Epidemiology Department. Dr.
Shaheen has an extensive experience in teaching and research. She has
18 years of experience in research development and implementation. She
has a unique experience in epidemiology and survey research methods. In
collaboration with Professor Ralph Frerichs at UCLA Department of
Epidemiology, she developed a rapid survey methodology that she
utilized in conducting five surveys among the Latino and African
American communities in Los Angeles. Dr. Shaheen is the program
director and an instructor for the Master of Science in Clinical
Research program at the College of Medicine at Charles R. Drew
University of Medicine and Science. As an instructor she is teaching
classes in clinical research and applications, epidemiology and
epidemiologic methods, evidence based medicine, data management and
data analysis, survey research methods and rapid surveys in urban
areas.
