The First-Year Experience Scholarship is a renewable scholarship in the amount of $10,000 over four years (approximately $2,500 per year). The scholarship is awarded for each year of attendance to students who successfully complete the components of the First-Year Experience Program in summer 2020 and enroll as an undergraduate at CDU each academic year. Subsequent awards will be based on student academic performance in years two through four, as prescribed by the First-Year Experience Scholarship Committee.
Initial awards will be based on financial need, official high school transcript and an unweighted grade point average and official test scores (ACT composite or SAT only). The scholarship will be applied to the student’s account beginning fall 2020. A recipient cannot receive more than one four-year FYE scholarship. In addition, in the event a recipient withdraws from the university, the unused scholarship funds will be forfeited.
The FYE Scholarship application will be available to all participants at the end of the Summer Intensive.
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:
- Demonstrate at school and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
- Maintain a strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
- 100% completion the Summer Bridge Intensive component of the FYE program;
- Enroll as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Charles R Drew University of Medicine & Science (CDU), including the FYE required courses in fall 2020.
