Pre-Nursing Admission Requirements

The Pre-Nursing Program at CDU is designed for first-time college students and for transfer students with minimal transfer units who wish to prepare for application to a BSN program. This program is not designed for upper division transfer students (e.g. with more than 30 transfer units). The program curriculum includes lower-division general education courses and science pre-requisites for the BSN degree program at CDU. Admission to the Pre-Nursing Program does not guarantee admission into the BSN program.

Application requirements include:

  • Completed application submitted through Nursing CAS
  • Official transcripts 
    • High school transcripts for first time in college students
    • High school and college transcripts for college transfer students
  • SAT/ACT test scores (recommended, not required)
  • Minimum GPA of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for college courses. Minimum GPA of 3.0 for high school courses
  • GPA’s under the 3.0 requirement will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Additional documentation may be required.
  • Pre-requisite Worksheet
    • For all courses taken towards fulfilling the 15 pre-requisite requirements to be eligible for the BSN degree program, please complete the Pre-requisite Worksheet to assist the enrollment office with your transfer evaluation.

  • One letter of recommendation (academic/professional/school counselor) -
    Recommendations should address the following areas:

    • A. Relationships with work (paid or voluntary) associates
    • B. Work competence
    • C. Communication and interpersonal skills with persons of diverse backgrounds
    • D. Leadership skills or potential
    • E. Values, ethical standards, responsibility, and initiative
  • Resume or CV, including extracurricular activities
    • Eligible activities include Community Service, Sports, Volunteer Service, Student Clubs, Religious Groups, etc...
  • Personal Statement (maximum 500 words) – please address your interest in obtaining a BSN degree and your specific interest in attending CDU. Statements must be typed and may be single or double-spaced.

International Student Requirements:

The University welcomes applications from all international students. Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students with an F1 Student Visa. The term "International Student" refers to any student who is not a permanent resident or naturalized citizen of the United States.

CDU requires a course-to-course evaluation that lists all subjects/courses completed at the post-secondary level, a U.S. semester credit and grade equivalent for each course, a U.S. grade point average (GPA), the level of undergraduate courses designated as lower or upper division, and the degree awarded with the title and date conferred. Below is a list of approved evaluation services:
