What does a radiologic technologist do?
The primary duties of a radiologic technologist include operating imaging equipment, ensuring radiation safety from unnecessary exposure for the general public and themselves.
Technologists perform clinical procedures to produce X-ray studies for the diagnosis and treatment of injury and disease.
Other duties include HIPPA compliance, financial stewardship, protection of patient rights and maintaining medical records.
Technologist also positions the patients, determining safe technical factors, process images and assist in the performance
of advanced imaging procedures and initiating basic life-support techniques as necessary.
Radiologic technologists provide patient services using imaging equipment as directed by physicians.
Professional competence requires that radiologic technologists apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, positioning,
radiographic technique and radiation protection to produce body images.
Radiologic technologists must exercise independent judgment and critical thinking skills in the performance of
imaging procedures and must be able to communicate effectively with patients, other health professionals and the general public.
Graduates are eligible to practice as radiologic technologists after successful completion of certifying examinations (ARRT, CRT and Fluoroscopy).
