A: The CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Pre-Medicine is a new, rigorous program at CDU designed for pre-medical students to enhance their chances of gaining admission to medical school.

Q: How long is the program?

A: The CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Pre-Medicine is a 12-month program completed over 3 terms (Fall, Spring, and Summer). 

Q: How much is the program?

A:  Tuition for the program is $578 per unit.* In addition, there is a Program Fee of $5,000 per term.  Students in the program are required to take a minimum of 24 units, up to a maximum of 36 units.

Q: Is the program open to all pre-health career students?

A: No. The CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program is only open to students interested in applying to medical school.

Q: Can I choose to do only some of the activities through the CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Pre-Medicine and pay a reduced fee?

A: No. Students who enroll in the program are required to participate in all program activities to successfully complete the program. In addition, students are responsible for the complete tuition and fees as listed.

Q: Can I participate in the program’s activities even though I am not a Post-Bacc student?

A: No. Only students enrolled in the CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program may participate in the program’s activities.

Q: Are there specific courses required to complete the program?

A: Students have the flexibility to take all or some of the prerequisite courses needed to apply to medical school. The program also offers upper division science courses. Students are required to complete a minimum of 24 units, up to a maximum of 36 units during the program. In addition to academic courses, there are mandatory seminars, activities, and advisement sessions required to complete the program.

Q: Will I receive a degree at the end of the program?

A: The CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program is not a degree program. However, students who successfully complete the program will receive a Committee letter and a Certificate of Completion. Students who successfully complete the program will also be recognized in the University Commencement program booklet, and will receive a guaranteed interview with the CDU/UCLA Medical Education Program.

Q: Can I work full-time while enrolled in the program?

A: Students must be prepared to dedicated approximately 30-40 hours a week to the program for classes, clinical and community service experiences, research, required seminars, MCAT preparation, advisement sessions, and personal study time. Q: Does the program offer more than prerequisite courses?

A: Yes. The program offers many experiences designed to increase success in applying to and ultimately entering into a medical school. These opportunities include rigorous MCAT preparation, individualized career advising, academic advising, medical student mentorship, paid attendance to medical conferences, research opportunities, and interview practice, in addition to a guaranteed interview for the CDU-UCLA Medical Education Program.

Q: Can I request time off from the program for personal reasons or emergencies?

A: Students who apply for the program are required to start the program during the cycle for which they applied. Students who choose not to start the program will need to reapply and will forfeit any paid deposits. In emergency situations, temporary deferment may be granted on a case-by-case basis.

Students who are actively enrolled in the program may be granted a Leave of Absence at the discretion of the Post Baccalaureate Program Committee on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Does the CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Pre-Medicine have linkage agreements with any medical schools?

A: No.  The CDU Enhanced Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program in Pre-Medicine does not have linkage agreements with any medical schools, nor does it offer early assurance or fast tracking programs.

The program does offer a guaranteed interview to the CDU/UCLA Medical Education Program for students who successfully complete the program.
