Congratulations on taking the first step to advancing your education in health and medicine! At Charles R. Drew University (CDU), we pride ourselves in striving for excellence. Named in honor of the brilliant Dr. Charles R. Drew whose revolutionary work in blood preservation forever transformed medicine. At CDU we strive to emulate Dr. Drew’s dedication to advancing medicine and hope to carry on his legacy by setting high standards for the selection of students.
Dr. Drew is the inspiration for the University’s mission and values. The PA Program will recruit students who believe in the importance of sharing medical knowledge to benefit the global community, and will provide students with the skills necessary to become exemplary medical providers. The CDU Physician Assistant program is located within the College of Science and Health and is a 27-month master’s program beginning in August of each year starting August 2016.
Students will learn and acquire clinical skills in a variety of healthcare settings and will obtain experience in disease management, disease prevention and health promotion. A strong emphasis on medical nutrition therapy in the curriculum will prepare students to address the complex nutritional needs of patients, a vital component of disease prevention and management. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to practice physical diagnosis, history taking skills, and work with standardized patients in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center. Students will share the campus and have the opportunity to collaborate with members of the medical, nursing and public health disciplines. Graduates will earn a Master of Health Science (MHS) from Charles R. Drew University.
