Los Angeles Pediatric Society
The Los Angeles Pediatric Society (LAPS) established the Eve and Gene Black Summer Medical Career Program in 1969 with a purpose to encourage high school students to choose careers in the health professions. Self-described as a medial mentor program, students are selected to work under the supervision of a health care educator/medical facility coordinator at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. Participants shadow various medical professionals (nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, lab technician, physician and/or medical specialist etc.) who together provide a range of patient care services.
Application – Closed. Applications are open from November to February; selected participants are notified in April.
