Living in Los Angeles

“Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles.” –Frank Lloyd Wright

There is something for everyone in Los Angeles, a stunning combination of intense city and picturesque landscape. Charles R. Drew University stands at the center of L.A. County, allowing access to the various pockets of culture, beaches, and cityscape. Our residents live anywhere from Downtown L.A. to Long Beach, from the coast to the Inland Empire, choosing where they would like to spend their time outside the work setting.

Weather and Outdoors

Grab your sunscreen and be prepared to forget what the cold feels like! Temperatures rarely fall out of the range of 60-80s throughout the year. There are plenty of local hikes with ocean and/or city views. Additionally there are multiple National and State parks within driving distance for fun weekend excursions.

A Foodie’s Paradise

Besides the famous In-n-Out Burger and plenty of local farmers markets (many of the latter make appearances at hospital sites), there are plenty of amazing places to eat in L.A. Here are just some of L.A.’s neighborhoods that celebrate foods and cultures from around the world:

  • Korea Town
  • Little Tokyo
  • Chinatown
  • Historic Filipinotown
  • Little Ethiopia
  • Little Armenia
  • Thai Town

L.A. is often synonymous with Hollywood. That means movie premieres, celebrity sightings, etc. The city has so much additional entertainment to offer. Here are a few notable places to visit within L.A.: Walt Disney Concert Hall, Griffith Observatory, Pantages Theater for touring broadway musicals, many museums including the Getty Center, Natural History Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art… and so much more!
