Family Medicine Residency Program

The Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is a private institution with a public mission to cultivate diverse health professional leaders who are dedicated to social justice and health equity for underserved and under resourced communities.  The newly accredited Family Medicine Residency Program builds on the CDU historical legacy of excellent residency education that has produced graduates who continue to provide much needed care in underserved communities.   It is an excellent place to continue your medical education to become a family medicine leader who will empower wellness in communities, families and individuals through health care equity, compassion and excellence in Los Angeles, the state, our nation and even the world.

The residency is a partnership between CDU and the Los Angeles County Health Agency that includes the Departments of Health, Mental Health and Public Health.  It, thus, provides a unique training experience that is whole person centered and focused on ambulatory care excellence.

The main training site is located at the Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center, which has a  whose mission is to provide compassionate, collaborative, quality care and improve the health of the Watts/Willowbrook community while be a leading model of innovative, collaborative community health care.

Our residents will work with passionate faculty who are committed to instructional excellence and nurturing student development. Our faculty members have a wide range of professional interests and expertise, including medical informatics, medical humanities, care of the underserved, geriatrics, women's health and adolescent and sports medicine.

While our goal is to help you to be the best family physician you can be, our faculty are also invested in our residents as people. Our new program seeks to ensure that residents and faculty truly work as a team. Residents are viewed as collaborative partners in our residency program narrative.
As you can see, we strive to give our residents the best educational opportunity from which they can become leaders in family medicine.  We are looking for bright, enthusiastic, and motivated residents to join us.
