Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is a premier mission-driven university dedicated to transforming the lives of underserved communities through health professions education, biomedical research and compassionate patient care. Since the school was incorporated in 1966 out of the ashes of the Watts Riots, we have been serving South Los Angeles and beyond by working to eliminate health disparities and providing unique, quality education and training opportunities for future health care leaders. The University’s faculty, staff and administration is committed to ensuring that we graduate a diverse body of outstanding students who will become leaders in transforming the quality of healthcare services.

The University is recognized by the Department of Education under Title III Part B as a Historically Black Graduate Institution, and is a charter member of the Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools, a national nonprofit dedicated to improving the health of Hispanic people through research initiatives, training opportunities, and academic development.
