Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is committed to the delivery of information technology services that respects a user’s privacy. This notice informs how CDU collects, uses, stores, and discloses information submitted or collected when accessing the CDU site or sites hosted by CDU.
This is a general notice of privacy and may be supplemented by a CDU unit that has a more specific statement regarding how it collects, uses, stores or discloses personal information.
PERSONAL INFORMATION COLLECTED
By accessing the CDU website, we may collect personably identifiable information (PII) about you. PII includes name, address, contact information, social security number, credit card number, demographic details, geolocation and other information.
USE OF COOKIES
CDU uses cookies to facilitate website engagement by collectively gathering, non-personally identifiable information when you visit the University’s site. A cookie gathers limited information about you and your website information which our system can store and recall to provide acess to the the CDU website content or or to previous web pages you visited, to make it easier for you to navigate CDU website. Cookies may also be used to track the preceding website you visited before accessing CDU’s. Cookies may remain in your browser until they expire or you delete them and others are erased when you exit our site and close your browser. OTHER COLLECTION AND MONITORING
CDU monitors all traffic and data points on its site. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses (, the computer’s operating system (PC or Mac), browser (Edge, Firefox, Chrome) and possibly limited browser history.
CDU may evaluate this aggregated (non-PII) data to assess visitor interaction and experience with the site from public IP addresses. The non-PII data may be used or shared with external entities or affiliates without disclosing any personal information. Examples are the use of web analytical tools to assess visitor interface with the CDU website and usage trends to improve security, performance, and content of our sites.
CDU regularly organizes and hosts events open to the public and may request potential attendees provide certain information through its website. The personal information supplied by any individual or organization will not be shared or disclosed to third parties without the individual or organization’s consent. Information such as name, contact information or other identifiers may be used to respond to inquiries, internal marketing, and development purposes.
Billing or financial information will only be used for the purpose for which it was provided, e.g. ticket or merchandise purchase, donations, or payments.
PII may be disclosed about you to third parties under the following circumstances:
- Disclosure is authorized or requested by you;
- To complete a submission or transaction initiated by you;
- To comply with law, regulations, subpoenas, or court orders;
- To protect any legal rights of the university including but not limited to its terms of agreements, or any other property right, or to protect the privacy or safety of users or others;
- As otherwise determined in this notice or any other more specific privacy notice from a CDU unit.
GDPR
Individuals located in the European Economic Area (EEA) may have enhanced rights as to the access, use and disclosure of your personal information. This includes information regarding data access and portability; data collection and correction of your data; and the right to have CDU delete your data except for information CDU is required to retain by law, regulation, or other legal mandate. You may also withdraw consent or object to the processing of your data in limited circumstances. Please contact CDU regarding any requests. CDU may revise this Privacy Notice as indicated by the date on the notice and reserve the right to do so. Continued use of the website after any changes, constitutes your acceptance of such changes.
