Mohayed MohayedMohayed Mohayed, M.D., Birmingham, Alabama

Medical Area of Interest: Health Disparities, Mood Disorders, Interpersonal Violence, Medical Education, Mental Health Advocacy, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry.

Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy drawing and animation
I genuinely love building rapport with patients and exploring each of the multifaceted factors that influence health.  Psychiatry often involves a wide variety of mystifying, unfortunate, or untimely conditions.  I find it to be the highest privilege to care for patients during their most vulnerable times. Receiving a medical diagnosis can be frightening.  However, unlike many other somatic (bodily) conditions, issues regarding mental health often carry the additional burden of stigma.  I believe that many of the fears and uncertainties associated with psychiatric or behavioral dysfunction can be stymied using patient education in conjunction with appropriate treatment modalities.  It is my most cherished view that the physician should serve as a teacher and counselor to the patient, the family of the patient, and the community at large.

Future Goals: I enjoy teaching patients and students alike.  I would love to be part of a program that values teaching.  In addition to inculcating a positive learning environment, I intend to work with medically underserved populations.
