Celebrating Mother's Day with the First Lady of West Angeles Church of God in Christ Mae L. Blake

Dr. Eva McGhee (center) is pictured with Barbara Kelly (left) and her mother, Ava Hill, who is 99 years of age.  She said "I was born Jan 27, 1916.  I'm almost there!"  (Almost 100 she means.)

Two members of CDU faculty proudly supported the work of West Angeles Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) by purchasing a table at the First Lady's Mother's Day Saturday event.  Dr. Eva McGhee, faculty member in the CDU College of Medicine, Dept. of Internal Medicine and the Division of Cancer Research and Training along with Dr. Shirley Evers Manly, Associate Dean of the Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing, supported "A Day in May with Lady Mae", at the Westin, Los Angeles Airport  May 9th.

Lady Mae L. Blake is the First Lady of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles, Bishop Charles Blake, Pastor. She delivered an outstanding keynote titled Aging Gracefully which teaches women how to prepare for their latter years giving insight and challenges of growing older.

The Mistress of Ceremonies was Judge Mablean Ephram.

All participants received an excellent softcover book compiled by Lady Blake titled Aging Gracefully with information on how to :

  • Protect your pocketbook
  • Stay in Touch with Crisis Situations
  • Stay Connected: Technology Options
  • Manage your medicines
  • Talking about End of Life Issues

Dr. McGhee said, “All of this wonderful advice Lady Mae shared will definitely help as we age gracefully.   It will cut down on some of the day-to-day stresses which may contribute to complex diseases such as cancer, depression, and cardiovascular diseases.”
