Photo Ops: Students to be presented White Coats by Family/Friends

Who:  Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU)/UCLA Medical Education Program

What: Annual Welcoming Ceremony (White Coat Ceremony)

When: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015 (TODAY!)

Where: CDU Campus, 120th Street Side of W. Montague Cobb Building, 1731 E. 120th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90059

Why:  The CDU Welcoming Ceremony, often called “The White Coat Ceremony (WCC)” is the occasion when the incoming 28 students of the CDU College of Medicine (COM) will ceremonially mark the students’ transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences.

WCCs typically involve a formal "robing" or "cloaking" of students in white coats, the garb physicians have traditionally worn for over 100 years and other health professions have adopted.*

Program:  CDU President and CEO David M. Carlisle will speak, followed by Provost Steve. O. Michael, followed by COM Dean Daphne Calmes. She will call up each student, and share their brief background and career  goal. The parents or supporters will join the students at the podium to help them don their White Coats.
