AZTLAN 5K CLASSIC BENEFITS CHARLES R. DREW UNIVERSITY’S LATINO SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The 23rd Annual Aztlan 5K Classic features community leaders, world boxing champions, and local participants championing education and community wellness

LOS ANGELES (August, 11, 2013) - Today, Aztlan Athletics hosted their 23rd Annual Aztlan 5K Classic benefitting Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU).  The money raised was donated to CDU’s Edward R. Roybal Scholarship Fund—an endowment dedicated to supporting Latino students interested in the medical and health fields.

“Thank you to Aztlan Athletics and all participants for contributing to Charles R. Drew University’s scholarship fund,” said Dr.David M. Carlisle, President and CEO of CDU. “This day represents two priorities for our University—a healthy community and creating pathways to higher education.”

The community run featured world boxing champions and current contenders, local runners, walkers and wheelers all enjoying the outdoors, challenging themselves, and supporting a great cause. In addition, an Aztec blessing will be performed prior to the run/walk, and the mariachi group Plaza de la Raza will perform a free concert post run/walk.

This historic event took place on the East Los Angeles College campus, a 1984 Olympic event site.
