Finding Funding – Database Searches and Sources Looking for funding opportunities, there are many avenues from which to begin your search. This page contains links to helpful resources for identifying funding opportunities. The following sources of funding information are applicable to faculty seeking funding in many subject areas. Most searchable databases and funding organization web sites enable users to establish a profile and receive information via email, based upon their preferences.

Sponsored Program Information Network (SPIN) A searchable database of more than 10,000 global sponsors and more than 40,000 opportunities separate funding opportunities from federal, non-federal and international sources.  This tutorial will take you through the steps of accessing SPINPlus and performing searches/creating reports in SPIN and GENIUS Search.  It will also guide you through the steps for creating/editing a GENIUS profile to receive SMARTS matches.  Click the links below  to begin the tutorial.  There is also a quick reference card to review.

 Grants.gov

Grants.gov is the central application and information resource for Federal grant programs. Here, you can find and apply to any of more than 1,000 programs within 26 grant-making agencies. You can search by agency, date range, funding activity category, or eligibility. You may also sign up to receive customized email notifications of grant announcements most relevant to your research.

  • Grants.gov -- Single-access point for grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies; allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from these grant-making agencies.
  • NonProfit Gateway -- A network of links to Federal government information and services for nonprofits.
  • Research.gov   Provides information on grant application status, research spending and results data, a policy library, and the latest research news for NSF and the US Department of Agriculture. Other agencies and features including PI profiles, online tools to submit progress and financial reports, sub-award searches and electronic fund disbursement will be added in the future.

  • Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool (RePORT) The Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool provides access to reports, data, and analyses of NIH research activities, including information on NIH expenditures and the results of NIH-supported research. RePORT provides frequently requested information and links to major sections of the site, including NIH strategic plans, reports on NIH funding, and reports on the organizations and people involved in NIH research and research training.

  • Chronicle of Higher Education News, information, and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators; some articles are publicly available.
  • Chronicle of Philanthropy News, information, and jobs for charity leaders, fund raisers, grant makers, and other people involved in the philanthropic enterprise; some articles are publicly-available.
