Class of 2012!
Congratulations on the achievement of your degree from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. The Degree Granting Ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will consist of the conferral of degrees and will last approximately until 10:30 a.m.
In order that our ceremony proceeds smoothly, we would like your assistance in ensuring that these procedures be followed.
Fri., 1/13 – 9:30 a.m. – Ceremony rehearsal for graduates and marshals will be held in the atrium of the Life Sciences Research Nursing Education (LSRNE) Building from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Please meet in the atrium.
Ceremony Day - We ask that graduates report to the Check-In area in the lobby of the LSRNE Building by 7:45 a.m.
Ceremony Parking
Parking will be available in the University’s parking lot and structure located on 118th Street, directly across from the W. Montague Cobb Medical Education Building (1730 E. 118th Street).
Seating
Due to safety regulations, there is limited seating in the atrium. Each student is permitted a total of one (1) guests. We cannot guarantee seating for students exceeding the guest limit. Guests will be allowed to be seated around 8:00 a.m. Seating for the elderly and persons with physical disabilities will be available in the ceremony area on a first come-first serve basis. Limited seating will also be available in the Overflow Area, located in the lobby of the W. Montague Cobb Medical Education Building.
Ceremony Photos and Videos
Family members and guests may take photographs and videos during the ceremony, however due to logistical reasons we must request that all aisles be kept clear throughout the ceremony. We request that one person only be designated to take photographs in the proximity of the stage during the ceremony. Once the photograph has been taken, your family member/friend must return directly to their seat. This will, hopefully, reduce the number of people crowding to get pictures near the stage and facilitate the audience having a clear view.
Cell Phones, Balloons, Flowers & Other Gifts
All cell phones are to be turned off or placed on silent once the ceremony begins. No one is permitted to use their cell phone while walking in the processional and the recessional.
Students are asked not to hold inflated balloons while seated. It has been the custom of handing flowers, gifts, babies, etc. to students as they march in a processional before being seated, or worse, during the ceremony, and making the most of photo opportunities as they do so. We want the processional and ceremony to take place in an orderly manner and will not permit interruptions of this sort.
The Recessional
Guests are requested to wait until the last person in the procession has left before leaving their seat. After the Recessional, there will be more space outside and ample time to take all the photos needed, and for greeting and sharing gifts.
Refreshments
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the lobby of the LSRNE Building.
We anticipate a truly memorable ceremony and again extend our heartiest congratulations to all of our Graduates!!
