University President on the Frontline Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March in Atlanta
Selection by Assembly Member Mervyn Dymally honors Kelly’s
“leadership, energy, and results-orientation” for expanding health
sciences school dedicated to reducing health disparities in underserved
communities
Dr. Susan Kelly, President and CEO of Charles Drew University represented
South Los Angeles as one of the Honorary Marshals during the 22nd
National observance of the birthday of Dr. King.
Dr. Kelly joined Honorary Marshals-- Atlanta's Mayor Shirley Franklin, Subu
Ndebele, Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and the President of
Morehouse College, Robert M.Franklin, Jr.-- leading a crowd of over
100,000 of Dr. King supporters and fellow activists for peace and
justice.
During the 5-day Dr. King celebration, Dr. Kelly gave several speeches,
participated in important panels and was presented with two recognitions
and awards for her work at CDU. Dr. Kelly was invited to participate in
this year's event by Rev. James Orange, Founder & Coordinator of the
MLK, Jr. March Committee.
