Los Angeles, Calif.- Board members, faculty, staff members, students, alumni and invited guests convened Wednesday, February 6, 2013 for the inauguration of Dr. David M. Carlisle as the 9th president of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU). Carlisle addressed the audience with his forward vision for the University following the formal investiture conducted by the CDU Board Chairman Marvin O’ Quinn.
While Dr. Carlisle was named president of CDU in April 2011 and began his duties the following July, he has since been diligently working with staff and faculty to win victories in accreditation, secure financial standing and increase student applications and enrollment. In addition, he has been a strong supporter of the groundbreaking research by faculty and creating a collaborative dialogue with the surrounding community.
“We have accomplished many feats, but the work is not yet done, ” said Dr. Carlisle. “I look forward to continuing to support our students, foster academia and research, and engage with our community. Each and every one of us is part of the remarkable journey of CDU and we must maintain the courage of our founders as we forge a new future together.”
Prior to CDU, Dr. Carlisle served as director of the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. Dr. Carlisle has long-term roots to Southern California and has years of voluntary service work.
“The inauguration is a time to celebrate Dr. Carlisle’s past victories and put an eye towards the future,” said newly appointed Board Chairman, Marvin O’Quinn.” Dr. Carlisle brings remarkable leadership skills and has placed the University on an upward trajectory.”
