WHAT: Cynthia Davis, assistant professor, Medical Science Institute at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science will receive the Second Annual “World AIDS Day Magic Award.” She was the first to conduct mobile HIV testing in Los Angeles County nearly three decades ago, and continues to evaluate thousands of people annually.
Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who is inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame but who retired after contracting HIV in the 1990s, is scheduled to present the award.
Michael Weinstein, president, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the largest global AIDS organization, is expected to attend.
WHEN: Thurs., Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. for news conference and 9:45 a.m. for the presentation.
WHERE: AIDS Healthcare Foundation Magic Johnson Clinic, 2146 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles 90018 (two blocks west of Western Avenue)
For World AIDS Day, Mrs. Davis also will conduct testing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at King-Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science, 1601 E. 120th St., Los Angeles, CA 90059. The event is part of the scheduled events through the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Magic Johnson HIV Testing in Los Angeles and elsewhere.
