The CDU community would like to congratulate Dr. Samantha Gizerian, PhD as the newly elected president of the Academic Senate at Charles Drew University. Dr. Gizerian has been a member of the Academic Senate Executive Committee for two years and has also been a member of the curriculum committee, WASC task group oversight, and the Contracts, Workload, and Compensation ad hoc committee. She has served as the Academic Senate secretary since June of 2009 and has been the president of the COSH Faculty Association since January 2008.
Dr. Gizerian received her BS in Biology at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) before pursuing a PhD in Neurobiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC, Dr. Gizerian studied the effects of neuroactive steroids on brain development, research that she has continued here at CDU.
After completion of her PhD, Dr. Gizerian came to CDU as an Assistant Professor in the Biomedical Sciences department. She is currently involved in curriculum development for the Biomedical Sciences program as well as teaching and is currently beginning her own research program at CDU.
Dr. Gizerian is the author of several peer-reviewed publications and scientific abstracts. She is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, Council for Undergraduate Research, and the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience.
